The Montessori elementary classroom is a strong and well-rounded program. Students work more independently and for longer work cycles. The elementary child is encouraged to work through the curriculum at a pace that is appropriate to each individual. The child learns planning and time management of tasks as they go through the program. At MSOS the students experience a warm, inviting classroom; dedicated, enlightened teachers; personal challenges, and the complex dynamic of a multi-age group. The older students are always encouraged to help younger students in all aspects of the classroom
Because of the low student-teacher ratio, teachers are able to design an individual lesson for each child based on that student's level of expertise in each area. We offer the Woodcock-Johnson standardized test at the end of each year to measure progress. This test is recognized by the public school system. The elementary school day is 8:00 am until 3:00 pm.
